Language Arts:
In this course students will focus on reading, discussion, and writing. They will study a variety of types of literature and complete writing assignments, focusing on getting their thoughts on paper. Students will also work on the conventions of writing and participate in discussions about what they are learning and reading in class. An additional emphasis is placed on increasing their student skills. This course can be taken individually or in a group with an individual appointment.
Social Studies:
Science:
This class will introduce scientific equipment, terms, and processes through hands-on learning methods. There will be some writing required in this class to complete labs and projects. This course can be taken in a group or individually.

3D Art:
This class is for those that love to create things using all types of materials. Students will use their creativity to construct, sculpt, manipulate objects to produce 3 dimensional art. Some projects will include clay sculpting, paper sculptures, shadow boxes, and multimedia sculptures.
Art:
Creativity will blossom in this group class as we learn techniques and elements of art and design. Creativity will be encouraged through a broad range of projects. Work will be exhibited on a regular basis.
Art and Our Garden:
Explore art while helping turn our Community Garden into an artistic work of wonder! Combining sketching, painting and ceramics (clay) with planning, observing, planting and harvesting from our garden.
Brain Games and Logic:
Games galore! This class focuses on game play and logic to increase the student’s social-emotional and higher-order thinking skills. It uses a mix of independent and collaborative games. Students may also move into game design and the creation of their own games.
Calligraphy and Handwriting:
Do you want to learn how to write cursive? Do you want to write as if it looks like you have taken a print out? Neat handwriting makes the reader want to read what you wrote and it makes for a very attractive write up. Let’s learn how to write neatly, beautifully, and in cursive. We can also learn calligraphy and hand lettering when we have mastered cursive writing which can help you create alluring artwork.
Creative Problem Solving:
In this class, students will develop their creativity and critical thinking skills by learning to tackle interesting, open-ended problems from a variety of genres, using current events and problem solving. They'll learn how and when to apply their existing knowledge to move projects forward while learning how to take creative risks in a supportive environment. Students will work both individually and collaboratively as a group.The focus will be on generating innovative, creative solutions - the wackier the better! The class will create a final collaborative group project.
Creative Writing:
An opportunity to dive deeper into all kinds of playful writing. Fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and journal writing will be included. Students will have access to keyboards. We will also publish and illustrate our pieces to share with others, based on each student’s interest and comfort level.
Debate:
Step into the world of persuasive conversation and critical thinking. In this class, students will practice public speaking through debates. They will learn about logic, arguments and opinions, persuasive writing, debate structure, reasoning, cross-examination, closings, rebuttal techniques and various persuasion styles. Students can expect to enjoy a lot of practice debates.
Drama:
Lights, camera, action! Students will use drama, improvisation, music, dance, and art as ways to practice communication skills, express themselves creatively, and collaborate with their peers.
Emerging Entrepreneurs:
Calling all future CEO’s and creative problem solvers! In this class, students will learn the process of business building by developing their own business ideas and building their own pretend* business. They’ll brainstorm ideas, conduct market research, and learn to solve potential problems with products, services, or different ways of thinking. We’ll focus on leadership through stepping into the role of a CEO. *If a student comes up with an idea they want to pursue, it will be a conversation with parents if that becomes reality!
Fun with Architecture:
Step into the captivating world of architecture with this group course. Students will examine different periods of architecture, the basic design elements of architecture, and the relationship between history, architecture, and culture.
Language Arts Adventures:
This is a fun and dynamic ELA class where students embark on thrilling quests to master various language arts skills! In this immersive course, students will engage in a series of exciting adventures, each designed to reinforce key concepts including vocabulary building, reading comprehension, spelling, creative writing and much more through interactive games, challenging puzzles, and hands-on activities.
LEGO Engineering:
Journey into the world of Lego Engineering! Students will explore the basics of engineering by utilizing the Lego Engineering for Education kits and working with a Lego master.
LEGO Stop Motion Movie Making:
Lights! Camera! Lego action! Students will work on their own stop motion films utilizing Lego characters and builds for their sets. Storytelling and film making techniques will be explored.
MakerSpace:
Stretch your innovation and creativity skills in this exciting and dynamic course. During this class students will be provided a general theme or idea and a set of supplies. They will then be given the time to let their imaginations and creativity take off. Guidance and materials provided for students to create individually or on a group project.
Photography:
Learn how to capture the magic of the world through the lens of a camera. This class will introduce students to the basics of photography, including composition, lighting, and basic camera settings. Students will have the opportunity to explore the world around them through the eye of a lens, expressing their creativity and using pictures to tell a story. Students will need a camera (or phone with camera) for the class.
Sewing:
Creativity and imaginations will stitch together as we learn the basics of sewing and sew some fun projects. Learn to sew on a button and hem pants. Sew a pillowcase and a skirt or pair of pants.
American Sign Language:
This course introduces the culture of the deaf, including beginning-level vocabulary and some sign language conversations.
Spanish:
In this course we will begin to learn the basic grammar of the language, verb conjugations, and pronunciation. The emphasis is on reading in Spanish, vocabulary, culture, music, and geography.
Spanish and Art:
Students will learn Spanish while enjoying drawing, painting, and crafting. Vocabulary and conversation will be integrated into everything we do.
STEAM:
This course is designed to be a student-driven, project-based experience. Throughout the year, students will participate in a number of projects, experiments and experiences related to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
Tabletop RPGs (Role Playing Games):
This course is designed to introduce the exciting world of collaborative storytelling, problem-solving, and imagination through the medium of tabletop RPGs. Throughout this course, young adventurers will embark on epic quests, create memorable characters, and develop essential social and cognitive skills in a fun and supportive environment. During each session, participants will learn the fundamental concepts of RPG gameplay, including character creation, world-building, and interactive storytelling.
Ukulele Band:
Learn to play ukulele with a small group of students. Have fun learning simple tunes and chord structures, strumming and rhythm patterns. We will enjoy periodic informal performances, inviting sing-alongs during activity periods and for special occasions. Each student will need to provide their own “real” ukulele. Beginning level and beyond are welcome. Beginners are encouraged to also practice at home.
Yoga:
Students learn the principles of yoga, including breathing, relaxation, stretching, and mindfulness.
Daily Classes
PE:
The goals of this course are to be healthy, to learn to play well with others, to prime the brain to learn more effectively in class, and to ensure that they enjoy the experience so they choose to be active more often. Students will learn the skills and rules for many games and sports so they can play them with their friends.
Activity Period:
The activity room is both a social venue and a vital classroom. It is here that students play, develop friendships, grow social skills, and learn skills and strategies for life. Students may engage in a variety of activities here during their activity period. The goals are to create a space that promotes positive socialization and connections between students, allows students freedom to choose how they use their time, and provides their brains some respite in preparation for their next class.
Lunch and Recess:
This group time is an hour in length and provides time for students to eat lunch, go outside, and socialize with peers. This is their time to choose what they would like to do and with whom they would like to spend time.
