6th through 8th graders have their own unique program that emphasizes the transition from elementary school to high school.
The following individual courses are available for 6-8 grade students . Many of the courses are also available in small groups. Field experience classes are courses with a longer block of time allowing for trips off-site together. 6th through 8th grade students can take high school math and world language courses for high school credit.
Art:
- This group art class teaches techniques and elements of art and design. Creativity will be encouraged through a broad range of projects. Work will be exhibited on a regular basis.
Art, Fabric and Paint:

Advanced Fashion Design:
- This group class is an advanced drawing course for students interested in learning fashion design including line, form, space, pattern, color, and light.
Drama:
- This group course in educational theater teaches communication, collaboration and creativity with such topics as: Improvisation, scene study, play writing, and theater design. There will be performance opportunities throughout the year.
Electronics Intro:
- This group course is designed to introduce students to electronic components. Students will use a breadboard to create circuits and personal projects. Students will familiarize themselves with the tools of the trade and learn basic soldering skills. Students will familiarize themselves with the Arduino micro-computer and its scripting language.
Fashion Design:
- This group class is a beginning drawing course for students interested in learning the fundamentals of fashion design including line, form, space, pattern, color, and light.
Game Design:
- This group course will focus on problem solving skills, strategies, communication, professionalism and the ethics of gaming. The goal is to develop a competitive e-sports team that will compete on line with other schools.
Horticulture:
- This “hands on” group course will allow students to fully learn about growing plants. Students will learn to grow starts from seed utilizing our off campus greenhouse. Fall and spring gardens will be planted at the Sammamish Valley Farm nearby where land has been donated for our use. Students will be involved in tilling, sowing, composting, watering, weeding and harvesting. We will visit other farms to gain an understanding of the modern, organic farmer. In class, we will study soil science, organic growing techniques, carbon farming, growing zones, and vermiculture. Field experience class.
Language Arts:
- This group class meets twice a week for reading, discussion, research, writing, spelling and vocabulary. A variety of writing formats will be introduced each year.
Outdoor Education:
- This course will focus on navigation skills (using maps and compasses), essentials for being self-sufficient in the backcountry, camping on different terrains, caring for the environment, and much more. This class may also include off-site learning. Field experience class.
Physical Science:
- This group course will focus on the study of basic life, physical and/or earth science topics. The focus will include hands on experiments and data collection and analysis.
Programming & Logic Intro:
- In this group course, students will learn basic programming concepts such as: Variables, operators, control flow, iteration and Boolean logic. Students will be introduced to programming languages including but not limited to Javascript, C#, Python and Ruby.
Science General:
- This group course will focus on the study of basic life, physical and/or earth science topics. The focus will include hands on experiments and data collection and analysis.
The World Around Us:
- This group field trip class will focus on providing opportunities for students to explore the world around them. Field trips may include learning about outdoor safety, hiking in the woods, reading maps, learning how to take city buses, learning about other countries and cultures. It will also include visiting local ethnic restaurants to learn about the culture from first generation Americans. Field experience class.
Washington State History:
- In this group class, students will study the Pacific Northwest region. Topics include: events that led to the establishment of Washington, state government, early explorers, landforms, climate, vegetation, and topography. This is a field experience class that takes weekly visits to sites in the community.
