Chrysalis 101:
Students will meet in small groups or individually for up to 4 weeks with our Student Life Advisor, to connect, build community, and discuss their experience and transition to Chrysalis High School.
Advising:
Students connect with their consulting teacher about their educational program during their advising period. They discuss their classes and workload, and the teacher assesses student skills and progress, determines readiness for next steps, and helps the student reflect upon their experience. This course may include topics such as learning styles, study skills, goal setting, online and relationship safety. This course is taught individually.
Language Arts:
This course may include grammar, spelling, writing, and reading of fiction and nonfiction texts. With the teacher, the student will discuss themes, utilizing both past and contemporary issues. Students may write essays and focus on improving writing skills and communication.

Students will study basic physical, earth, and space science topics. The focus will include hands-on experiments and data collection and analysis. Recommended to take in the 8th grade.

Mythology - Yesterday and Today:
The class will start with Percy Jackson’s The Lightning Thief and explore Greek mythology. Then move on to Egyptian mythology, Norse Mythology, Aztec and Mayan mythology, Korean mythology, and Navajo myth and stories. Students will spend time reading/listening to novels while exploring modern and classic interpretations of ancient myths as well as the enduring influence of mythology on our culture today.

Art History and Culture:
In this course, the students will travel through different periods/ styles starting with prehistoric art all the way to present day modern contemporary art. Students will learn the basic elements of art and the relationship between history, art, and culture.
Painting:
Creative Sketching:
The course will focus on learning beginner friendly techniques and skills using dry mediums like pencils, pens, color pencils, and oil pastels to make sketching an everyday habit.
Japanese Culture and Art:
Computer Applications:
Students will develop a basic knowledge of current applications, of productivity and creative software. Typing, Canvas, and Google Suite will be included.
Computer Programming:
Computer Fundamentals:
This individual course provides students with an introduction to the basic concepts of Computer architecture and operation. Students will be introduced to Processors, peripherals, Input/Output devices, Memory, Storage. Students will learn about operating systems, services, programs and how these things interact. The student will also be exposed to the history and evolution of computers.
Computer Networking:
This individual course provides students with an introduction to the basic concepts of computer networks. Students will learn about local area networks, wide area networks, and the internet. The students will be introduced to Routing, DNS, Firewalls, Network Address translation, port address translation, filtering, Wifi, Near field communications (NFC), and network security.
AI and Machine Learning:
This individual course provides students with an introduction to the basic concepts relating to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Students will be introduced to Large Language Models, Autonomous control systems and Machine heuristics. Students will learn how AI is being used in and the effects of AI on society.
Video Game Asset Design:
This individual course provides students with an introduction to game asset design, including modeling 3D objects for games, texturing, and asset workflow. Students will work with Blender, Substance Painter, Photoshop, and other related software.
3D Design:
This individual course will provide the student with an understanding of the practical applications of 3D modeling and design. The student will follow the design process from concept to generation of the finished product, utilizing a variety of 3D modeling/printing software.
Electronics:
Students are introduced to electronics and circuitry. Students use and experiment with electronic components, motors, multimeters, and light displays. The class utilizes a hands-on project approach.
Fabric Arts:
Students are introduced to knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Fashion Design:
Students learn the elements of design. Including line, form, space, pattern, color, and light in this course.
Film Review and Media Production:
This class will use film as their medium to discuss and write about genre, character, plot, filming techniques, and movie history. The focus will be on fundamentals of video and podcast production.
Graphic Design:
This course will provide students the opportunity to explore the most practical applications of graphic design: print and web design. Students will follow the design process from idea generation to finished product, study influential designers, and utilize a variety of software.
Interior Design:
In this individual course, students will study the fundamentals of design and focus on the principles and elements of design. Students will also learn how to do floor plans and basic room design. Projects are required.
Life Sports:
Students will be introduced to a variety of sports and activities including bowling, golf, bocce ball, tennis, hiking, skating, darts, and cards. Field trip group with a lab or participation fee.
LEGO Classic Design:
Discover new adventures using LEGO in this broad based LEGO building class. Learn new building skills and techniques as we explore Architectural and US History, Art History, World Cultures, Science and Space, and our favorite worlds of Harry Potter, Minecraft, Star Wars, Pokemon, and Superheroes!
LEGO Engineering:
Step into the world of engineering using LEGO and explore mechanical, structural, and architectural designs. In this hand-on class we explore simple and complex machines, recreate architectural wonders, step back in time with Leonardo de Vinci, and live out adventures from our favorite characters, like Minecraft, Star Wars, and Pokemon with motorized and non-motorized creations.
LEGO Robotics:
Explore the world of LEGO Robotics in this hands-on class where we build and program robotic machines and contraptions. What is a Robot and what do they do? Learn LEGO robotic systems and dive into programming logic, using Scratch-based block programming to bring the LEGO to life.
LEGO Stop Motion Movie Making:
In this class, students will explore the process of making a stop-motion movie, using LEGO. They will explore the history of movies, create a story, build LEGO scenes, shoot movie frames, and make sound and special effect edits in post-production.
MakerSpace:
In this group course, the student and teacher will work with materials found in the Makerspace closet to create projects of interest.
Roll for Initiative:
In this group class, students will explore creative writing, drama skills, interpersonal communication, and leadership through the exciting world of tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons. Students will develop a deep appreciation for narrative construction, character development, and collaborative storytelling while collaborating on their own games, and building their own characters, and worlds.
Music Theory and Appreciation:
This class seeks to expand student's understanding and appreciation of the musical arts. Students will learn musical terminology, develop listening skills, and explore the wide variety of music from around the world and throughout time. The focus will be on learning aspects of music history, how to analyze music, basic music composition, and—hopefully—which music students enjoy most!
Guitar:
Learn to play the guitar and become the musician you have always wanted to be! This class is designed for the beginner, intermediate, or advanced skill levels. Instruction includes reading musical notation, meter, timing, rhythm (chords), scales, key signatures, and soloing (improvisation). Play your favorite songs with styles from classical to contemporary and free your own creativity with songwriting.
Photoshop:
Students work individually with their teacher to apply the principles of design in creating a variety of projects using Photoshop.
Problem Solving and Logic:
Students will use their critical thinking skills while exploring logic puzzles, murder mysteries, and board games. They will practice teamwork, communication, and problem solving, while learning to persevere through challenges.
Interpersonal Development:
This course provides a foundation for increasing self awareness and interpersonal skills. Students will explore topics such as emotional regulation, empathy, relationship development, problem solving, decision making, and effective communication.
Stress Management:
This course introduces the principles and practices of stress management through the development of self awareness, relaxation exercises, meditation, and breath work. Students will explore topics such as empathy, emotion regulation, relationship skills, decision making, and problem solving.
Drama:
This group class focuses on communication, collaboration, and creativity with such topics as: improvisation, scene study, play writing, and theater design.
World Languages:
Students may choose to study a world language at an introductory level. Students who demonstrate that they are able to successfully learn at a high-school level and pace may earn a high-school level course title and earn high school credit.

Physical Education (100 minutes per week):
Students will pursue a consistent exercise program that may include a variety of physical activities. These activities can be done individually or as part of a group.
