Art:
This course is designed for the study, creation, and observation of selected periods and styles of art. Art courses may focus on textiles, painting, collage, drawing, anime, 3-D sculpture, and makerspace projects.
Art History:
The student will examine different periods of art history, the basic elements of art, and the relationship between history, art, and culture.
Architectural Studies:
The student will examine different periods of architecture, the basic design elements of architecture, and the relationship between history, architecture, and culture.
Drama:
This course in educational theater teaches communication, collaboration, and creativity with such topics as: improvisation, scene study, play writing, and theater design. Performance pieces vary with proficiency levels.
Design Fundamentals:
This course provides students with information and opportunity to experience and develop basic design skills, including two- and three-dimensional design, hands-on construction, analyzing and solving problems, and effective critique. Students will work with a wide variety of materials.
Drawing:
The student will progress at their own rate through a series of drawing exercises and projects.
Fashion Design:
This class is a beginning drawing course for students interested in learning the fundamentals of fashion design, including line, form, space, pattern, color, and light.
Fashion Shoot:
This class explores how to navigate and execute a successful fashion photo shoot. The student will investigate digital camera parameters, makeup and hair selection, model selection, current trends, wardrobe styling, art directing, lighting, and concept development. The student will also practice thoughtful critique and examine their own progress throughout this course.
Fashion Survey:
This class is a beginning course for students interested in learning basic design principles as they apply to make up, body types, room decor, and fashion trends.
Fashion Textiles:
This course is an advanced course focusing on fabrics and fabrications of textiles. Topics include fibers, construction, and finishes.
Film Production:
This course will focus on writing short films and producing them. It will also focus on fundamentals of video production, including camera operation, editing, and showcasing.
Film Production, Advanced:
Advanced film production focuses on the technical aspects of camera operation, lighting, and digital editing. Students will explore color theory, studio and lighting methods utilizing artificial and natural light, and use Premiere Pro and After Effects. The goal of the course is for students to plan, execute, and finish a professional caliber film.
Film Study:
The student will use films to discuss and write about genre, character, plot, filming techniques, and movie history.
Graphic Design:
This course will provide students the opportunity to explore the most practical applications of graphic design: print and web design. Students will follow the design process from idea generation to finished product, study influential designers, and utilize a variety of software.
Interior Design:
In this course students will study the fundamentals of design. It will focus on the principles and elements of design. Students will also learn how to do floor plans and basic room design. Projects are required.
Music History:
In this course the student will explore different periods in the history of instrumental music. The student will complete assignments and listen to music from each period.
Music Theory and Composition:
This course is designed to develop skills in reading music, writing music, and listening to sounds. Specific topics will be based on student interest, instrument of choice, and musical knowledge.
Photography I:
The students will be introduced to, and improve, photographic skills and techniques. Critique skills will be developed as the student’s own pictures and others are analyzed. Digital camera and laptop required. The group class is a field experience class.
Photography II:
This is a second year photography class. Students will learn advanced photography skills by taking photos in various locations. Critique skills will be developed as the student’s own pictures and others are analyzed. Digital camera and laptop required. This is a field experience class.
Photography III:
This is a third year photography class. Students will learn advanced photography skills by taking photos in various locations. Critique skills will be developed as the student’s own pictures and others are analyzed. Digital camera and laptop required. This is a field experience class.
Photography, Darkroom:
The student will learn photographic skills and technique in this individual class. It covers the basic aspects of black-and-white film processing, printing, and enlarging. Students will become well acquainted with the functions and purposes of darkroom equipment and darkroom procedures.
Photoshop:
The student will develop the principles of design in creating a variety of projects using Photoshop.
Technical Theater:
This course will focus on production, stage management, theater and set design, costuming, props, lighting, and sound.
Theater Studies:
This individual course will offer students the opportunity to explore a variety of theater topics. Course content will be decided upon by the student and instructor. Areas of study might include: acting, playwriting, directing, scenic design, technical theater, stage makeup, acting, costume design, specific plays, or theater history.
The following courses may be taken off campus for credit:
Band:
This course is for a student participating in a band program outside of school. The hours spent during practice and performance will be recorded and credit will be awarded.
Dance:
Students will receive credit for a course taken outside of Chrysalis that emphasizes technique and/or performance of a selected dance style. It may be completed via community courses or private instruction.
Music:
The focus will be on activities chosen and planned by student and instructor based on the experience and interests of the student. Hours spent with a private instructor, during practice, and performance will be recorded and credit will be awarded based on those hours.
Music Instrumental:
A student may earn credit in instrumental music for private lessons, practice, and performance.
Performing Arts:
This course is for students involved in a major production with a professional theater company. Credit is based on study, rehearsal, and performance hours.
Vocal Music:
A student may earn credit in vocal music for private lessons, performance, participation in a choir, and/or singing in a band. Credit will be awarded based on the hours spent with private instructor, practice, and performance.
